Mr.H.J.Adams. Selsdon Resident's Death in Hospital.
Mr.Herbert John Adams, of 194 Farley-road,Selsdon, who died on Friday, w
as well known in the district, in which he had lived since 1936, and als
o in Thornton Heath, where he had resided for the previous twenty-five y
ears.
Mr Adams, who was sixty-three, was a retail cutler by profession and wa
s for many years with a firm in London. Seven years ago he went into bu
siness on his own account, but he had the misfortune to be among the fir
st to suffer from the raids on London. His premises were demolished. H
e took another shop in the same district and, by ill-luck these premise
s were also damaged in a raid. Mr.Adams carried on manfully, but the ex
periences evidently affected his health, which had been indifferent fo
r three or four years. He passed away in the Purley Hospital and was bu
ried at Warlingham on Tuesday. He leaves a widow and three sons.
